Reflections and light

Although the photographer is unknown the image is a great example of both light and reflection. This image has been cleverly thought out and I want to use this style in my forensics piece where I will be using a 500Watt light bulb. I will be focusing it more on the reflection on the glass revealing whats behind me. The sunset helps and complements the image with nice colour tones.

Research

      John Smith

John Smith is currently employed as Senior Lecturer in Photography & Digital Imaging at the University of Westminster, John is one of the UK’s leading experts in the area of forensic imaging, with over ten years of experience working for the major forensic science providers: first with the Serious Crime Unit of the Forensic Science Service (London laboratory) and then with Forensic Alliance and latterly LGC Forensics (Culham).

Although there aren't any photos that John has taken on the internet due to the line of work he is and has been in. John used to take serious crime photos which would be guarded by privacy laws and genuinely quite unpleasant and inappropriate for viewing.

Image Research and Annotation

I like this photos perspective, the image doesn't come on too heavy with the crime/incident.
The photo does seem staged as the photo is focusing more on the photographer but it gives us a clear look on the kind of clothing and equipment   used in the real scenarios. 

This image is more along the lines of what I would like to portray in my photos such as the use of the yellow markers and evidence.
In my photos I will use a variety of locations which I have already planned out.
I will use rural, urban and derelict/rundown areas.
This is such a simple image whereas when I shoot mine I will make sure they have a backdrop location which provides the realness and situation of the image.

This hard hitting real image was taken by Gilles/Magnum in Rwanda.
Captioned:Clothing and bleached bones were all that remained of this refugee, slain with over 1000 others at the parish church of Nyarubuye, Rwanda. Their bodies were not found until 44 days after the killings.
A graphic and intense piece to look at but a true one. Discarding all the dark facts of this image the way the clothes and body is laid out has helped also and will encourage me to use more materials.

Proposal

In this assignment I will be focusing on forensic science in my photography.

This will be a great task for location shots as I plan to use grassland(rural environment, washlands), derelict areas and urban environments (alley ways, outskirts of town).

I really want to create some convincing and powerful images using this time of years weather (winter-misty/fog) to portray an eerie natural feel and look.
I will go out to take photos in different locations and have many types of equipment.
I will use minimal effects and try to keep the images as natural as possible to create a sense of truth to the photo.

Introduction

This assignment aims to develop our knowledge and skills in the characteristics of location photography. I will create photographs on location whilst developing their ability to use the technology, media and techniques associated with location photography.

The topics to choose from are as follows:

-      Photojournalism: the everyday or the unconventional

-      Scientific / forensics

-      Fictional documentary

I have chosen Forensics.

I will focus mainly on forensic science because it really interests me and hopefully I will be able to create something great from that choice.
